I have 18 years' experience in publishing, producing content and services for public service and commercial organisations.
On the content side I am a copywriter, subeditor and commissioner. (I have covered lots of subject areas but specialise in education, tax and finance.)
On the services side I commission and implement publishing systems and processes. I have a strong technical background and have hands-on experience ranging from scripting content conversions to building websites.

Career summary
I began my editorial career (before that I was a bookseller) in '92 with Dorling Kindersley working on educational books.Amongst other things, I've:
- Commissioned and managed HM Revenue & Customs' Self Assessment and Migrant Workers websites
- Commissioned and managed Directgov's benefits, pensions and debt websites
- Devised and launched services for BBC New Media including the travel news site and the BBC's first personalised services
- Devised and produced CD-ROMs and DVDs for Dorling Kindersley - including The Way Things Work, World Explorer, Night Sky and Holocaust
- Implemented cross-platform content management and publishing systems (Librios) for The AA, David and Charles, F+W, Krause and others
- Undertaken legacy content conversions (from sources such as Word, InDesign, CSV and relational DB to XML) for The AA, David and Charles, F+W, Krause, Berg (A&C Black) and others
Ongoing work
I'm currently:
- Implementing cross-platform content management and publishing systems (Librios) for several publishers (including F+W, and The AA)
- Working with i-Publishing Consultants (consultancy and technology for publishers)
- Converting legacy content to XML for Berg (A&C Black)
- Commissioning, building (using HTML, SSI, Ruby and SQL) and managing websites for a number of small businesses.
Availability
I'm fully-booked until the end of June '10.
Location
My office is in Worcester, England. I spend around two days a week in London, either working with clients or going to meetings.
I'm happy to attend meetings (almost) anywhere, and will consider working in-house for short periods (or for up to three days a week longer term, depending on location).

Qualifications
I have a degree in biology and a PGCE.
